Richard Green from Greens of Glastonbury supplies us with a powerfully nutty farmhouse flavoured Cheddar. He is based in West Pennard and his family has been making cheese for around 100 years since his grandparents moved to the area to take tenancy of a small dairy farm.

Richard has been involved in farming all his life and has been making cheese since leaving school. As his family has been making cheese for 4 generations and some of his relatives have done nothing else, taking over the business was all he ever wanted to do.

He is proud of what his family has achieved and enjoys making a cheese that people enjoy eating, but there are difficulties. Making sure that the cheese they make is right for a year’s time and working out what their sales will be like at that time isn’t an easy task!

Based within sight of Glastonbury Tor on an area that is part of the ancient Isle of Avalon, their traditional grassland farm on the sparsely populated Somerset Levels is ideal for the organic system.
